19-Year-Old Driver Killed, 5 Injured in Head-On Collision near Hageman Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 5, 2025) – Sunday night, a two-vehicle crash on Highway 58 claimed the life of Mariana Lizbeth Rivera Acosta

Authorities responded to the scene around 5:57 p.m., near Interstate 5 and Hageman Road.

Initial investigations revealed that a westbound 2023 Dodge sedan attempted to pass a vehicle by going in the opposing lanes.

Consequently, the Dodge collided head-on with a 2016 Chevrolet sedan traveling eastbound along the highway.

First responders pronounced the woman driving the Chevrolet deceased at the scene. Later, the Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased driver as 19-year-old Mariana Lizbeth Rivera Acosta of Buttonwillow.

Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the 22-year-old Buttonwillow man driving the Dodge to a hospital for serious injuries. His female passenger was also hospitalized for moderate injuries.

Three juveniles from the same vehicle received minor injuries, according to the CHP. Officials do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the collision.
