38-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in Police-Vehicle Collision near Fillmore Street

GOODYEAR, AZ (November 1, 2024) – Late Tuesday morning, a motorcycle accident on Estrella Parkway claimed the life of Jacob Vela.

Just before 12:00 p.m., officers received dispatch calls near Fillmore Street on October 22nd.

According to the Goodyear Police Department, a police officer was responding to a call and drove at high speeds when he ran through a red-light.

There, Vela entered the intersection and collided with the police-vehicle. Paramedics arrived and located 38-year-old Vela with critical injuries.

Medical personnel quickly transported Vela and the involved officer to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics later pronounced Vela deceased.

Police stated that failure to yield to an emergency vehicle contributed to the crash. Also, Vela was not wearing a helmet at that time.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
