19-Year-Old Ejected and Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash near Interstate 10

PHOENIX, AZ (November 1, 2024) – Sunday, Angel Ramirez Zapien was pronounced dead after a solo-car accident on Loop 202 South Mountain.

Police officers arrived to the scene around 5:00 a.m., on the northbound lanes of Loop 202 South Mountain on October 20th.

An initial investigation revealed that a Ford Mustang collided with an impact attenuator, causing the car to split in half.

The force of the crash tore 19-year-old Zapien’s seatbelt, ejecting him from the vehicle. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced Zapien deceased.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash and do not believe impairment or speed were factors. They will provide further details as the investigation progresses.
