60-Year-Old Weldon Man Pronounced Dead after Motorcycle vs Truck Collision near McCray Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 3, 2024) – Friday afternoon, Stephen Michael Prough was killed in a two-vehicle motorcycle crash on Highway 178.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 5:16 p.m., just west of McCray Road in Mountain Mesa.
According to investigators, the rider of an eastbound motorcycle hit the side of a 2009 Chevrolet pickup-truck.
Authorities said the 16-year-old driving the pickup made a left turn directly into the path of the motorcycle.
The rider attempted to avoid the collision but lost control of his motorcycle in the process.
Responding medical personnel declared the motorcyclist dead at the scene after being ejected from his motorcycle. The coroner’s office later identified the deceased rider as 60-year-old Prough, of Weldon.
Police also said the driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
