22-Year-Old Drunk Driver Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Collision near Brentwood Street
AUSTIN, TX (September 10, 2024) – Saturday, Luis Maldonado and Johnny Reyes were killed and Edward Rodriguez was arrested after a DUI crash.
The Austin Police Department responded to the 6500 block of North Lamar Boulevard just south of Brentwood Street around 2:30 a.m.
Reports indicate that 22-year-old Rodriguez struck two pedestrians near the intersection. Upon impact, the driver remained at the scene.
First responders located the two victims down on the road with no signs of life. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced both victims, 50-year-old Reyes and 21-year-old Maldonado dead at the scene.
During preliminary investigations, police determined that Rodriguez was intoxicated at the time. As a result, officers arrested him for DWI.
