2-Month Old Baby Pronounced Dead after Red-Light Accident near East Baseline Road

MESA, AZ (September 16, 2024) – Early Sunday afternoon, one male infant was killed in a multi-vehicle rear-end collision on Power Road.

The Mesa Police Department responded to the scene around 1:00 p.m., near East Baseline Road on September 1st.

Investigators say a Subaru Forester, occupied by two adults and two young children, was stopped at a red-light on Power Road. Shortly after, the driver of a Honda Civic failed to stop and rear-ended the Subaru, causing it to roll over.

In addition, the Civic crashed into a nearby Audi that was also stopped at the intersection.

Paramedics arrived and transported the two young children in the Subaru to Banner Children’s Hospital, where the 2-month-old boy was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, crews also took the two adults to another hospital for further treatment.

Following preliminary duties, officers say the infant was properly restrained in the car seat. Authorities have not yet released his name.

At this time, speed is suspected as the main factor contributing to the collision. Once available, more details will be provided about the fatal rear-end collision on Power Road.

Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased young victim.
