Pat LaFortune Dead, 8 Hospitalized after Multi-Car Collision on Highway 12 [Santa Rosa, CA]
Man Killed, Several Injured in Chain-Reaction Accident near Fulton Road
SANTA ROSA, CA (September 5, 2024) – Thursday, Pat LaFortune was killed and 8 were hospitalized after a multi-car collision on Highway 12.
Officials responded to the scene around 11:50 a.m., near Fulton Road in southwest Santa Rosa.
California Highway Patrol officers learned that the driver of a dump-truck hauling dirt failed to stop at the red light and collided with at least ten vehicles.
Investigators learned the semi-truck rear-ended the last vehicle in the lane, causing a chain-reaction collision.
Responding rescue personnel declared one of the people involved dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as LaFortune. Crews say he was a former longtime teacher at Cardinal Newman High in Santa Rosa.
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed eight remaining patients to a hospital with mild to moderate injuries.
Ultimately, Santa Rosa Officials closed the westbound Highway 12 at Stony Point to Fulton Roads as crews cleared the scene.
LaFortune spent 46 years teaching social studies and dedicated 40 years to coaching the track & field and cross country teams. In addition, he coached the school’s baseball and football teams during the 1970s. He will be deeply missed by his community.
