90-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pickup-Truck Accident near Chapman

RUSK COUNTY, TX (August 21, 2024) – Wednesday, Edward Truelock died and Jose Salazar was hurt in a pickup-truck crash on US Highway 79.

Dispatchers received calls just before 5:20 p.m., near Chapman on August 14th.

The Rusk County Emergency Management and Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the eastbound lanes shortly after.

According to troopers, the collision involved a Kubota Utility Vehicle driven by 90-year-old Truelock and a Ford pickup-truck.

Investigators say Truelock was heading west when he failed to maintain his lane and went into the eastbound lanes. As a result, the wrong-way vehicle collided head-on with the eastbound pickup-truck, ejecting Truelock onto the road.

Paramedics arrived and transported Truelock and the Ford driver, 46-year-old Salazar, of Center to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 90-year-old Truelock deceased.

Consequently, the troopers blocked the highway, and motorists utilized FM 1798 South to FM 348 back to US 79. All lanes reopened by 9:00 p.m.

Further investigation is being handled by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
