24-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after 2-Car Collision near Brand Boulevard On-Ramp

GLENDALE, CA (August 21, 2024) – Late Friday night, Jake Huard was killed and two others were hurt in a two-vehicle crash on 134 Freeway.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 11:40 p.m., on the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Brand Boulevard. 

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a silver Mitsubishi SUV was stopped in the No. 2 lane. For reasons unknown, the front passenger then exited the vehicle.

The driver of a passing black sedan then rear-ended the Mitsubishi before striking the passenger who was on the road.

Responding emergency units declared the passenger – identified as 24-year-old Jake Huard – dead at the scene. 

Meanwhile, paramedics took the 19-year-old Pasadena woman driving the SUV to a nearby hospital for treatment of major injuries. 

Police said the 22-year-old El Monte man driving the black sedan received minor injuries from the crash. 

Investigators closed the eastbound lanes of 134 Freeway for investigation and reopened them on Saturday around 7:00 a.m.
