49-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Bicycle Collision near Highway 198

TULARE COUNTY (August 15, 2024) – One man was killed Sunday evening, in a hit-and-run bicycle collision on Road 68. 

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the northbound lanes of the freeway around 9:00 p.m., just south of Highway 198 and Goshen.

Investigators say a vehicle struck a man who was riding an orange Santa Cruz Soul bicycle north on the right shoulder of the road. Upon impact, the driver fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting authorities.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the 49-year-old male bicyclist dead at the scene. Although, police officers have not yet released his identity.

Authorities are currently looking for the suspect’s vehicle, identified to be a black Chrysler 300 sedan.

Emergency responders shut down the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Tulare County Officials are asking those who witnessed the fatal Road 68 hit-and-run to contact the CHP Fresno Communication Center at (559) 262-0400.
