2 Dead, One Hospitalized after Speeding Collision near Happy Valley Road

SHASTA COUNTY, CA (July 25, 2024) – Early Thursday morning, a car crash on Highway 273 claimed the lives of Stephen Jesse and Michael Harvey.

The fatal collision happened around 1:30 a.m., along the northbound lanes of Highway 237, just south of Happy Valley Road. 

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a 1998 Toyota Corolla veered off the east side of the roadway while traveling at high rates of speed. 

The vehicle then collided with a metal light pole before coming to a stop at an intersection. 

Paramedics transported the driver, identified as 36-year-old Stephen Jesse of Redding, to Mercy Medical Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

Reports said one of the passengers was trapped inside the vehicle, leaving them with fatal injuries. Authorities later identified the deceased passenger as 56-year-old Michael Allen Harvey, of Redding. 

Meanwhile, a second passenger – identified as 35-year-old Daniel Bishop – was taken to Mercy Medical for treatment of serious injuries. 

At this time, Shasta County officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
