One Dead, Several Others Hospitalized after Pleasure Craft Crash in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA (July 8, 2024) – Wednesday, a boating accident in Alamitos Bay left a male passenger dead and sent ten others to a hospital.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., police officers responded to the scene in the area of the Los Alamitos Bay jetty.

According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the 48-foot pleasure craft with 11 passengers crashed into several rocks.

The impact of the collision caused the boat to overturn and take on water.

Responding medical personnel declared a man, only identified to be in his 40s or 50s, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported 10 other people to a hospital. Seven of the patients remained in stable condition while three others remained in critical condition.

US Coast Guard Richard Uranga claimed that speed appeared to be the leading factor in the crash.
