3 Killed, 5 Hospitalized after Motorcycle Collision on Interstate 5 [Oceanside, CA]
Three Motorcyclists Pronounced Dead after Six-Vehicle Crash near Las Pulgas Road and Camp Pendleton
OCEANSIDE, CA (July 2nd, 2024) – Early Thursday, three victims were killed and five were hurt in a motorcycle collision on Interstate 5.
Authorities responded to the scene around 3:00 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway near Las Pulgas Road and Camp Pendleton.
For reasons under investigation, the driver of a Jeep struck the shoulder guardrail of the freeway before coming to a stop.
Shortly after, the driver of a Mercedes-Benz van hit the disabled Jeep. In addition, four passing motorcyclists collided with the two vehicles.
Responding paramedics declared the three motorcyclists dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the fourth rider to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Medical responders also airlifted the two occupants of the Jeep to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the driver and the passenger inside the van were hospitalized for moderate injuries.
A U.S. Navy Spokesman later told crews that two of the men who died were sailors.
At this time, Oceanside Officials continue to investigate the fatal Las Pulgas Road multi-vehicle crash.
