Unidentified Male Victim Fatally Struck in Car Crash near Escondido Canyon Road
ACTON, CA (June 18, 2024) – Early Friday morning, one man was pronounced dead after a hit-and-run accident on Highway 14.
Dispatchers received calls around 1:21 a.m., near Escondido Canyon Road and Red Rover Mine.
California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a Nissan Altima rear-ended a disabled Honda Pilot SUV that was being assisted by a tow-truck. The impact of the crash pushed the Honda into the Honda driver who was standing near the vehicle.
Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced the male pedestrian dead at the scene. Although, police have not yet released his name or place of residency.
In addition, authorities say the 17-year-old male driver of the Altima fled the scene on foot. Following preliminary duties, authorities managed to arrest the juvenile at the Henry Mayo Hospital.
Acton officials issued a SigAlert closing the No.2 and No.3 lanes of Highway 14 as crews investigated the hit-and-run crash. An active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
