Mark Leonard Mason Dies in Three-Vehicle Collision on 22nd Street [Tucson, AZ]
52-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after 3-Vehicle Collision near Cherrybell Straight
TUCSON, AZ (June 18, 2024) – Early Wednesday evening, Mark Leonard Mason was fatally struck in a three-vehicle collision on 22nd Street.
Authorities responded to the scene just after 6:00 p.m., near E. 22nd Street and South Cherrybell Straight on June 12th.
Officers say 52-year-old Mason was driving a BMW west on 22nd Street and attempted to make a left turn on a yellow traffic signal.
The BMW then collided with a Honda Accord traveling eastbound in the middle lane on South Cherrybell Straight. The impact caused debris from the Accord to hit another car as it continued moving eastbound.
Emergency units promptly transported Mason to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three days later, medical personnel pronounced him dead.
Mason’s failure to yield while making that turn is cited as the major contributing factor of the crash.
At this time, an active investigation to determine further details is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
