Two Dead, Two Hospitalized after Speeding Collision near Southwest 45th Avenue

AMARILLO, TX (June 19, 2024) – Friday evening, Aaron Cervantez and Edwin Macias were killed in a red-light crash on Soncy Road.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m., near Southwest 45th Avenue on June 7th.

Per reports, 19-year-old Pemberton was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe at a high rate of speed, north on Soncy Road.

The Chevy eventually ran through a red light and struck a westbound 2008 Cadillac CTS, causing it to spin out.

A passenger inside the Cadillac was ejected from the vehicle onto the road. Medics pronounced the Cadillac driver, 18-year-old Macias and the passenger, 20-year-old Cervantes, of Dimmit dead at the scene.

Paramedics took another passenger from inside the Cadillac, 18-year-old Alexander Rivera from Dimmit to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Crews also transported 19-year-old Dawson Pemberton for further treatment.

Following preliminary duties, police believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors.

Additionally, while emergency personnel were responding to the scene, an APD vehicle struck a pedestrian who stepped onto the road. Medics took the pedestrian to a hospital where he later passed away.
