3 Teens Killed, 35-Year-Old Woman Arrested after DWI Collision near Peyton Street

BAIRD, TX (May 15, 2024) – Early Sunday, Ashlie Haynes collided with a vehicle, killing Ryan Bilby, Layni Potter, and Madi Buchanan.

The incident happened around 2:00 a.m., at the intersection of West 3rd and Peyton Street on May 5th.

Reports state that the driver of a southbound Kia Spectra collided with a Chevrolet truck that was approaching the intersection on West 3rd.

The impact ejected three passengers from inside the Kia, 18-year-old Layni Potter, 18-year-old Madi Buchanan, and 16-year-old Ryan Bilby onto the road. Due to the severity of their injuries, authorities declared all three individuals dead at the scene.

Emergency responders took another individual from the Kia to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Following preliminary duties, authorities arrested 35-year-old Ashlie Haynes, the Chevrolet truck driver, for DWI after a breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit of 0.08. Haynes was then booked into the Callahan County Jail.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
