29-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Collision near North Sullivan Street

SANTA ANA, CA (May 2, 2024) – Early Thursday morning, Luis Ibarra fatally struck Joseph Alton in a pedestrian crash on West 1st Street.

Authorities responded to the scene around 4:30 a.m., near North Sullivan Street on April 25th.

Following preliminary investigations, officers determined that Luis Duarte Ibarra was heading west on 1st Street and struck Alton. Upon impact, Ibarra continued driving west.

Medical personnel arrived and located 29-year-old Alton, of Buena Park unresponsive at the intersection. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, crews later pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Officers eventually located and arrested 51-year-old Ibarra, of Santa Ana and charged him with felony hit-and-run. Moreover, his vehicle was collected as evidence. It is still unclear if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
