Man Critically Injured in Pedestrian Accident on University Avenue [San Diego, CA]
35-Year-Old Man Hospitalized after Pedestrian Collision near 54th Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 14, 2024) – Sunday evening, one man was critically injured in a pedestrian accident on University Avenue.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m., police officers responded to the scene near 54th Street.
Investigators say the driver of a Toyota sedan was traveling through a green light on 54th Street. There, the Toyota struck a male pedestrian who was walking in a south direction.
Responding medical personnel transported the 35-year-old man to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
Meanwhile, the 69-year-old man driving the Toyota remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division is leading the investigation. Following preliminary duties, crews ruled out intoxication to be a factor in the incident.
