Bicyclist Pronounced Dead following Hit-and-Run on South Melrose Drive [Vista, CA]
Bicycle-Auto Collision near Buena Vista Drive Left One Person Dead
VISTA, CA (March 11, 2024) – Thursday night, a person was fatally struck in a hit-and-run on South Melrose Drive involving two vehicles.
The fatal collision happened around 10:30 p.m. on S. Melrose Drive, near the intersection of Buena Vista Drive.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, two unidentified vehicles hit the bicyclist for unknown reasons.
Following the crash, the first motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. However, the second driver fled while northbound on South Melrose Drive without rendering aid to the victim.
Despite the life-saving efforts of the first responders, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased victim once the next of kin has been notified.
At this time, the authorities are searching for the suspect’s vehicle, identified as a white crossover SUV.
Vista Officials are asking those who witnessed the fatal hit-and-run to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Currently, the city is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can lead the authorities to the arrest of the suspect.
