61-Year-Old SUV Driver Pronounced Dead after Multi-Vehicle Collision near 40th Street

PHOENIX, AZ (March 6, 2024) – Monday, Gary Burnside was killed in a fiery semi-truck crash on Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

Authorities responded to the scene near 40th Street on February 26th.

Per reports, Burnside was driving a westbound SUV and veered into the eastbound lanes. As a result, the SUV struck an oncoming semi-truck and side-swiped a minivan.

Upon impact, the trailer hauling energy drinks caught fire. First responders located the semi-truck engulfed in flames.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 61-year-old Burnside deceased.

Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
