Deputy Charles Rivette Killed in Car Accident on Interstate 45 [Conroe, TX]
Deputy James Francis Hurt in Police-Vehicle Crash near Centerville
CONROE, TX (March 12, 2024) – Late Wednesday evening, a car accident on Interstate 45 left Deputy Charles Rivette dead.
Authorities responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m., near Centerville about 100 miles north of Houston.
Investigators say two Texas deputies were transporting an inmate at the time. For reasons under investigation, the SUV police vehicle veered into oncoming lanes and hit a semi-truck.
The SUV came to a stop on the northbound lanes, while Rivette was ejected onto the roadway.
Medical personnel arrived and pronounced 18-year-old Rivette deceased, due to the extent of injuries sustained. In addition, the other deputy, James Francis, and the inmate also sustained serious injuries.
Reports revealed that the inmate was being transported from Oklahoma to face a felony charge of driving under the influence.
