Rodger Lee Watkins Killed in 2-Car Accident on Anaheim Street [Long Beach, CA]
60-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near Atlantic Avenue
LONG BEACH, CA (February 22, 2024) – Late Tuesday night, Rodger Lee Watkins was killed in a 2-car accident on Anaheim Street.
Authorities responded to the scene around 11:48 p.m., near Atlantic Avenue.
For reasons under investigation, the driver of a 2012 Lexus IS250 broadsided a 2012 Ford Focus, causing the Ford to lose control. The Ford then crashed into a traffic signal light and an abandoned building before coming to a stop.
Investigators say the Lexus also struck a bus bench in the northeast corner of the intersection.
Despite the life-saving efforts, first responders pronounced the Ford driver succumbed dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the deceased driver as 60-year-old Watkins, of Long Beach.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the 31-year-old Lexus driver to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
