One Pronounced Dead after Multi-Car Collision near Rural Road
TEMPE, AZ (February 14, 2024) – Monday morning, one child was pronounced dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Rural Road.
Officers responded to the scene shortly before 8:00 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway near Rural Road.
Per reports, a westbound vehicle changed lanes and caused the multi-vehicle collision. The incident involved a loaded commercial dump truck from GT Hauling, a pickup-truck pulling a utility trailer, and five other vehicles.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced a young child dead at the scene. In addition, several other occupants sustained injuries.
During clearing operations, an eastbound SUV crashed into a police vehicle. However, the patrol car was not occupied by any officers. Meanwhile, the commercial dump truck spilled diesel on the road, and crews worked to clean it up.
