Rear-End Collision near Lerdo Highway Left One Dead, Two Hospitalized

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 14, 2024) – Early Monday morning, a truck/SUV collision on Interstate 5 claimed the life of a male driver and left his two passengers injured.

The deadly crash happened around 3:34 a.m. along the southbound lanes of I-5 off-ramp to Lerdo Highway. 

According to CHP, a Hyundai Santa Fe drifted off the roadway and struck the rear end of a parked Volvo tractor/trailer on the right shoulder, for reasons unknown. 

The first responders declared the Hyundaid driver dread at the scene. Officials only identified the deceased driver as a 25-year-old man from San Francisco. 

Meanwhile, paramedics transported his two passengers, ages 26 to 24, to Kern Medical for treatment of various injuries. 

Meanwhile, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Police said that alcohol appeared to have contributed to the incident. Bakersfield Officials continue to investigate the fatal truck/SUV collision.
