30-Year-Old Passenger Pronounced Dead after Single-Vehicle Accident near Loynes Drive

LONG BEACH, CA (February 5, 2024) – Sunday evening, Christopher Castellanos and another person were killed in a solo-car crash.

The incident happened around 6:20 p.m., at the intersection of North Studebaker Road and Loynes Drive on January 21st.

Per reports, the driver of a 2004 GMC Yukon lost control and struck a bridge support. Upon impact, the GMC became engulfed in flames and veered off the bridge before landing in the Los Cerritos channel below.

Fire rescue was able to extricate the driver and transport him to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, divers located another passenger deceased at the scene.

Authorities later identified one of the deceased victims as 30-year-old Castellanos.

Following preliminary duties, officers suspect speed and impairment as potential factors. Once available, further details will be provided.
