Pedestrian vs. Vehicle Accident Witnessed by Constable Deputy
HOUSTON, TX (January 26, 2024) – Late Friday evening, police responded to a pedestrian crash that claimed the life of Joaquin Martinez.
The incident took place in the 2500 block of West Mount Houston Road just before 10:00 p.m., January 12th.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a Harris County Constable Pct. 1 was traveling east behind a black GMC Sierra driven by Salvador Carranza Ventura when the dash cam of the deputy caught an accident.
A man in his 50s to 60s, who was later identified as Martinez, walked over to the eastbound lanes and got struck by Ventura.
Furthermore, the deputy added that a vehicle avoided Martinez but Ventura was unable to maneuver his vehicle out.
At this time, it was unknown why Martinez crossed the traffic lanes, and Ventura was not determined to be impaired during that time.
Further investigation is handled by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
