Five Injured in Wrong-Way Collision on State Route 163 [San Diego, CA]
Head-On Collision near Robinson Avenue Left 5 People Hurt
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 16, 2024) – Police arrested one person early Friday morning following a wrong-way collision on State Route 163.
The CHP responded to the collision around 3:20 a.m. along the freeway near Robinson Avenue in Hillcrest Avenue.
According to the report, a northbound white Mazda drove into the southbound lanes of SR-163 for unknown reasons.
Consequently, the Mazda driver collided head-on with a gray Toyota Camry traveling in the opposing direction.
Responding paramedics transported the four Camry occupants to a hospital for unspecified injuries. Police said the rescuers had to use hydraulic-powered tools to extricate victims from the wreckage.
In addition, the authorities also rushed the Mazda driver to a hospital and were later arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
