12-Year-Old Boy Pronounced Dead after Solo-Car Collision near Champlain Way

DALLAS, TX (January 30, 2024) – Thursday morning, Kevin Briones was killed in a single-vehicle SUV accident on Lasater Road.

The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m., near Champlain Way.

Following preliminary duties, officers say another 12-year-old boy was behind the wheel of an SUV with multiple young passengers. An altercation began between the driver and a passenger, when the passenger grabbed the steering wheel.

The vehicle then veered off the road and hit a nearby tree. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics later pronounced 12-year-old Briones dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics took three other young passengers to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The loved ones of Briones set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs during this difficult time.

Witnesses in the area told WFAA they saw the SUV speeding before the crash. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
