56-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Bicycle Crash near Potrero Way
SACRAMENTO, CA (February 1, 2024) – Tuesday afternoon, Mattie Nicholson was killed in a hit-and-run bicycle accident on Freeport Boulevard.
Police officers responded to the scene shortly before 6:00 p.m., near Portrero Way.
Based on initial investigation, the driver of a gray 2004 GMC Envoy struck a woman riding a bicycle. Responders discovered the victim lying in the roadway with significant injuries.
Paramedics rushed the female bicyclist to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Authorities later identified her as 56-year-old Nicholson.
Police said the driver of the GMC fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim. Authorities closed Freeport Boulevard between Irvin Way and Wentworth Avenue in both ways for investigation.
Sacramento officials will provide more information about the fatal hit-and-run once available.
