Several Pronounced Dead after Fiery Auto Collision near Medanales

RIO ARRIBA COUNTY, NM (January 18, 2024) – Saturday morning, four victims sustained fatal injuries in a 2-car accident on US Highway 84.

First responders arrived to the scene around 3:30 a.m., near Medanales on December 9th.

For reasons under investigation, the driver of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and a 2019 GMC truck collided head-on in the area. Dispatchers located both vehicles engulfed in flames upon arrival.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced all four occupants inside both vehicles dead at the scene. Although, police have not yet released their identity.

Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided about the fatal 2-car accident on US Highway 84.

The New Mexico State Uniform Bureau coordinated with the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Unit in handling further investigation.
