2 Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision on South Normandie Avenue [Los Angeles, CA]
Father and 5-Year-Old Girl Killed in Auto Accident near West 50th Street
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 2, 2024) – Late Sunday, two victims were pronounced dead after a two-vehicle collision on South Normandie Avenue.
Police responded to the scene just after 11:00 p.m., near West 50th Street on December 31st.
Surveillance footage from the area shows a white SUV speeding next to a red sedan shortly before the crash. The SUV then rear-ended the sedan, and the sedan driver started chasing the SUV into the intersection.
There, the SUV was hit by another southbound vehicle. Upon impact, the SUV was pushed into a street sign and fence, causing fatal injuries to the father and 5-year-old girl inside.
Medics arrived and extricated the remaining occupants from the vehicle. Paramedics took the mother, a 2-year-old child and another child to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Following preliminary duties, Los Angeles authorities suspect alcohol to be a factor of the incident.
Officers say the driver of the SUV was hospitalized with critical injuries, and charges against him are pending. Once available, further details will be provided.
