Two Pronounced Dead after Speeding Auto Collision near Ruth Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (December 19, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, Thomas Oviatt and Janette Oviatt were killed in a speeding accident on 43rd Avenue.

Around 2:30 p.m., police responded to the scene just south of Dunlap Avenue, near Ruth Avenue on December 13th.

Per reports, 80-year-old Thomas was driving a vehicle with 79-year-old Janette as a passenger. As he attempted to make a U-turn, a speeding northbound Ford struck him.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced Janette dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics took Thomas and the Ford driver to a nearby hospital where Thomas later succumbed to his injuries.

Following preliminary duties, authorities do not suspect impairment as a factor of the collision, and an active investigation is still underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
