Bakersfield Christmas Parade Collision Left Three People Injured

BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 11, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, three people were sent to a hospital following a pedestrian crash on 21st Street in downtown Bakersfield.

The collision happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 21st and H Streets area during the Bakersfield Christmas Parade. 

According to the report, a truck driver allegedly backed up northbound at a high rate of speed and hit three people joining the parade. 

Subsequently, the driver continued traveling backward at 21st Street before stopping near a fire station. 

Responding emergency personnel transported the three paradegoers to a hospital where they remained in stable condition. At this time, the victims were only identified as a 21-year-old, 41-year-old, and 77-year-old men. 

Meanwhile, police arrested the 72-year-old truck driver. Police suspect that intoxication contributed to the collision.
