17-Year-Old Girl in Life Support after Traffic Accident on Wildwood Drive
DEER PARK, TX (December 6, 2023) – On Tuesday afternoon, the authorities arrested Leland Smith after critically injuring a teen in a crash.
The fatal incident happened on November 14th around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Georgia Avenue and Wildwood Drive.
According to the Deer Park Police Department, a 17-year-old student was walking with her sister, when a pickup truck driven by Smith lost control and struck them along the sidewalk.
Furthermore, the student was then pinned by the pickup against a light pole. She suffered life-threatening injuries, and paramedics transported her to Memorial Hermann Hospital via Life Flight.
In addition, the authorities stated that the victim is a 10th-grade student at Deer Park High School South Campus.
Consequently, the authorities arrested Smith with intoxication assault charges, and additional charges are possible. An active investigation is still ongoing.
