77-Year-Old Driver Dead, 61-Year-Old Passenger Injured in Solo-Car Crash near mile marker 158
ARMSTRONG COUNTY, TX (November 27, 2023) – One Wednesday evening, a solo-vehicle accident claimed the life of Samuel Kinley Shoels.
The incident occurred shortly before 10:20 p.m., November 15th, along the northbound lanes of US-287 near mile marker 158.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident involved only a 2007 Buick LeSabre driven by a 77-year-old Shoels with his passenger 61-year-old Ella Bryley.
Furthermore, the investigation showed that Shoels headed northbound when he veered off the road and ended up driving into a grassy bar ditch. He then ended up crashing into a tree and rested in a bar ditch.
Unfortunately, the impact immediately resulted in the death of Shoels, and Bryley suffered injuries. She was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital for treatment.
At this time, it was unknown what caused the collision, and the authorities have yet to determine if both had their seatbelts on. Further investigation is ongoing.
