Three Pronounced Dead after Head-On Accident near Mile Post 163

LEA COUNTY, NM (November 28, 2023) – Friday morning, Miguel Angel Delacruz, Emigdio Montano, and one other died in a head-on collision.

Authorities responded to the scene on Highway 82 near mile post 163 on October 27th.

Per reports, 24-year-old Delacruz was driving a Toyota 4-door sedan east on the westbound lanes for reasons unknown. As a result. the Toyota struck a Chevrolet pickup-truck, driven by 74-year-old Montano with a 31-year-old passenger.

Medics arrived and pronounced Delacruz, Montano and another passenger dead at the scene. Responding paramedics also transported another passenger to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Following preliminary duties, authorities excluded alcohol as a potential factor. Although, authorities said their seat belts were not worn properly. Once available, more details will be provided.
