Van Versus Pedestrian Collision Near Apple Valley Road Left 12-Year-Old Girl Fatally Injured
APPLE VALLEY, CA (November 13, 2023) – Monday night, a pedestrian accident along Highway 18 claimed the life of Journee Buchanan-Williams.
Officials responded to the fatal incident around 11:00 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 18 and Apple Valley Road.
According to a witness, authorities were searching for a young girl prior to the collision. After visiting 7-Eleven, the girl attempted to cross Apple Valley Road northbound.
However, the investigators claimed that an eastbound white Ford Transit cargo van traveling in the no. 1 lane of Highway 18 hit the child.
Tragically, the young girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital a short while later. Authorities later identified the deceased victim as 12-year-old Journee Buchanan-Williams.
The 58-year-old Apple Valley man driving the Ford remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
Furthermore, a portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. However, the highway has since been reopened.
Currently, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team is leading the investigation. Anyone with additional information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Apple Valley sheriff’s station at (760) 240-7400.
