Two Pronounced Dead after High-Speed Accident near Highway 152

MADERA COUNTY, CA (November 8, 2023) – Friday evening, Teresa Freyear and Karima Buitron were killed in a high-speed crash on Highway 99.

Dispatchers arrived to the scene around 8:05 p.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway just north of Highway 152 on October 27th.

Per reports, 19-year-old Buitron was driving an older model Toyota Camry at high speeds with four female passengers. In addition, all occupants were not wearing their seatbelts.

Shortly after, Buitron failed to negotiate a turn and lost control of the vehicle, veering onto the east shoulder. The Camry then hit a light pole and overturned.

Medics arrived and pronounced Buitron and 20-year-old Freyear dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, authorities suspect that impairment may have been a factor. At this time, an active investigation is still ongoing.
