Pedestrian Crash near Castillo Street Off-Ramp Resulted in Fatality
SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 31, 2023) – Saturday evening, a person died in a pedestrian-car collision on Highway 101.
Emergency personnel responded to the incident on October 28th, at around 10:15 p.m. in the southbound Castillo Street off-ramp.
According to the police, a 2015 Honda Accord traveling southbound on the off-ramp hit the male victim in the traffic lane. At this time, investigators were unclear as to why the man was standing in the middle of the off-ramp lane.
The first responders transported the pedestrian to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. However, his name remains undisclosed to the public, pending notification from the next of kin.
Police said the 56-year-old Santa Barbara resident driving the Accord and their two passengers did not sustain injuries.
Furthermore, a large portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. The Highway has since been reopened.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal Highway 101 pedestrian/car collision.
