Fatal Collision near Kern Drive Claimed the Life of 19-Year-Old Man
EL PASO, TX (October 23, 2023) – Friday afternoon, a car vs motorcycle crash on North Meza Street left Diego Ivan Benjamin Martinez dead.
The fatal accident happened around 2:18 p.m. on September 29th, at the intersection of 3300 N. Mesa and 400 Kern Drive.
According to EPPD, a 2023 Yamaha motorcycle heading north, crashed into the passenger side of a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan while turning or pulling out onto the road.
Paramedics arrived shortly and took both drivers of the car and motorcycle to a nearby hospital. Police identified the Volkswagen driver as an 84-year-old woman, Rosa Valenzuela, who sustained minor injuries while the motorcycle rider, identified as a 19-year-old man, Diego Ivan Benjamin Martinez, who suffered serious injuries and died at the hospital the next day.
Additionally both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. However, the street has since been reopened to the public.
Furthermore, it’s unclear if the driver would face any charges.
