78-Year-Old Cyclist Dies after Being Struck by Reckless Driver
TUCSON, AZ (October 26, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, police were dispatched to a crash that claimed the life of John Clayton Timbers.
The incident happened on October 17th around 5:00 a.m. near the roads of Grant and Craycroft.
Upon arrival, the officers located 78-year-old Timbers downed on the road with serious injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Furthermore, the investigation showed that Timbers was traveling along the area when he was struck on his rear by a suspected red 2000s Nissan Frontier or Xterra.
Moreover, the driver did not stop to call for the authorities, he immediately fled the scene just before the authorities arrived.
In addition, the police stated Timbers was a beloved member of the cycling community. A portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.
An active investigation is still ongoing.
