Man Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 [Merced County, CA]
Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Big-Rig Collision near Plainsburg Road
MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 18, 2023) – Sunday morning, one man was fatally struck in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Highway 99.
Police responded to the scene around 6:23 a.m., just south of Plainsburg Road.
According to reports, the driver of a Honda Civic exited his vehicle on the northbound lanes after being side-swiped by a big-rig.
The male driver then ran across the lanes where he was struck by several other vehicles.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the male pedestrian dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released his identity.
Officers say some of the involved vehicles pulled over while two others fled the scene. Authorities are currently looking for a blue Kia sedan and a Hyundai with an unspecified color, both with front-end damage.
Police are encouraging people with additional information to contact the CHP at 209-356-2929. Once available, further details will be provided about the pedestrian crash on Highway 99.
