46-Year-Old Los Angeles Man Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Accident near Aquarium Way

LONG BEACH, CA (October 17, 2023) – Saturday evening, Romelia Cuarenta Aguilar was killed in a pedestrian crash on Shoreline Drive.

The incident occurred around 6:35 p.m., near Aquarium Way.

Per reports, the driver of a white Chevrolet Bolt was heading east on the westbound lanes and drove through a red light.

As a result, the Bolt driver hit multiple pedestrians and several occupied vehicles without slowing down.

In addition, the driver also hit a woman pushing a child on a stroller within a marked crosswalk. The suspect then continued traveling in the opposite lane before hitting several other vehicles. 

First responders declared the woman pushing the stroller dead at the scene. She was later identified as 60-year-old Romelia Cuarenta Aguilar of Long Beach. 

Paramedics also rushed several other pedestrians to a hospital where they remain in stable condition. 

Meanwhile, police arrested the Chevrolet driver, 46-year-old Khalid Yagobbi of Los Angeles, for suspicion of murder. Yagobbi’s bail is currently set at $2 million.
