22-Year-Old Man Hospitalized after Scooter Collision near 5th Avenue

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 3, 2023) – Thursday night, Richie Barragon was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run scooter accident on Ash Street.

Authorities responded to the scene around 8:34 p.m., on the 400 block of Ash Street near 5th Avenue.

Per reports, the driver of a westbound vehicle struck a motorized scooter rider that was heading south on the west side of the 5th Avenue bike path.

A witness claimed that they heard a loud noise outside before discovering the scooter rider face down on the roadway. Upon impact, the driver fled away from the scene without rendering aid or contacting police.

Medical responders transported the male victim with serious head injuries and a life-threatening brain bleed to a hospital. Authorities later identified the man as 22-year-old Richie Barragon.
