Two Men Died after a Tire Struck a Van Window
LAKEWOOD, WA (September 28, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, two people died after a tire struck a van on Interstate 5.
The incident happened on September 21st, just after 5:30 a.m., on Interstate 5 near Bridgeport Way Southwest.
According to reports, a tire that was being hauled on a truck came loose and flew down the road. The tire then collided with a work van with eight occupants. The collision caused several of the van’s occupants to sustain injuries.
Emergency crews arrived shortly after and pronounced an 18-year-old man and a 55-year-old man dead. Meanwhile, paramedics transported one other person to a local hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, crews shut down the right northbound lanes of Interstate 5 and the Bridgeport Way Southwest off-ramp. After cleanup and preliminary duties, they reopened the road around 9:40 a.m.
