72-Year-Old Man Killed While Picking Up Grandaughter at Jefferson Elementary School

DINUBA, CA (September 26, 2023) – Friday afternoon, a pedestrian crash on Crawford Avenue claimed the life of Alfonso Rios and left a 4-year-old hospitalized. 

The collision happened on Crawford Avenue and Terrace Drive, near the Jefferson Elementary School.

According to reports, Rios was walking his granddaughter home from school when a car struck them. The impact of the collision left the two victims with serious injuries.

First responders arrived at the site of the collision shortly after. Despite the life-saving efforts, medics pronounced 72-year-old Alfonso Rios was declared dead at the scene. 

Meanwhile, his 4-year-old granddaughter was airlifted to Regional Medical Center before being transported to Valley Children’s Hospital. She was eventually discharged from the hospital and is expected to recover. 

Police said the involved driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. 

The family of Rios started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses as well as the young girl’s additional hospital expenses.
