Two Children Hospitalized after Solo-Vehicle Crash in Northwest Bakersfield 

BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 26, 2023) – Friday evening, Raymond Allen Leonard was arrested and two children were hospitalized following a DUI crash on Phairfield Street.

Authorities received reports of two juveniles pinned under a vehicle at around 7:35 p.m., at 3900 Phairfield Street.

Upon arrival, the officers learned that a 2012 Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on Powder River Avenue failed to negotiate a southbound turn. As a result, the Dodge went across Phairfield Street and into a bedroom of a residence. 

Responding emergency personnel extricated the two children and transported them to Kern Medical for treatment of major injuries. Officials identified the children to be a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy. 

Meanwhile, police arrested the Dodge driver, 33-year-old Raymond Allen Leonard, for driving under the influence and causing injury. Leonard was booked into Kern County Jail, according to CHP Officer Tomas Martinez.
