78-Year-Old Woman Dies, Two Injured in Head-On Accident near West Greenway Road

PHOENIX, AZ (September 26, 2023) – Early Wednesday evening, Shokriya Raies was killed in a head-on collision on 35th Avenue.

Authorities responded to the scene around 5:20 p.m., near West Greenway Road on September 20th.

Per reports, the male driver of a vehicle failed to yield while attempting to turn west onto Tierra Buena Lane. There, the man’s vehicle struck a southbound car occupied by a woman in her 40s and Raies.

Medics arrived and treated Raies for life-threatening injuries while the woman was also in critical condition. Meanwhile, paramedics say the man suffered minor injuries.

Due to the extent of her condition, crews later pronounced 78-year-old Raies dead at the hospital.

Following preliminary duties, investigators do not believe that impairment played a role. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
