Matthew Pierson Killed in Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 147 [San Augustine, TX]
25-Year-Old Deputy Officer Pronounced Dead after Big-Rig Collision near Highway 103
SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (September 14, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, Matthew Pierson was killed in a semi-truck crash on Highway 147.
Police received dispatch calls around 7:30 a.m., near Highway 103 on August 29th.
According to reports, the driver of a 2015 Peterbilt semi was heading west on Highway 103. Meanwhile, Pierson was heading north on Highway 147 and failed to yield to the semi-truck.
As a result, Pierson struck the trailer portion of the Peterbilt semi-truck. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 25-year-old Pierson, of Etoile dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver, 54-year-old William Lyons, of San Augustine remained uninjured.
Emergency crews closed off both directions of the roadway during clearing operations. Following preliminary duties, officers do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
